I'm between drafting WIPs, I'm reading The Ascending and I'm pretty sure I found my next bookish obsession...

Can you believe I'm already implementing dev edits on Legion of Prides? This book is flying! (Even if it is my most challenging book to write)

But that’s the point, right? Challenging yourself so you keep growing. I don’t write with marketing quotes in mind, that usually comes later, figuring it out. But, there was something about this line that stood out to me.

QOTD: What was one of your October highlights? Or something you're looking forward to?

Here’s the thing. The traditional publishing industry is a business, just like any other, and for them to invest money in their product (in this case an author) there is certain criteria they need met, like the concept of earning out your royalties, or needing to produce trends. This is not a new concept in business.

In my opinion, and this may be a hot take, but traditional publishing is rarely about talent, and more about a combination of other factors like the demand in the industry from their readers.

I remember Alex Aster doing a Good Morning America segment for one of her books…and she had never seen the cover until that moment. That was an experience she had to give up, but in return, she got oppurtunities to Talk Shows, something most of us ever dream of. It’s all about deciding what you want and what you’re willing to compromise.

To be clear, I’m not sh!tting on the traditional publishing industry, some of my favourite authors are in it. I’m just explaining why it’s not for me and not part of my dream.

As I was mid drafting The Clash of the Damned, I got hit with another idea of something I really want to write. Like badly. My secret project is officially underway!

There are a lot of dumb/ambitious/cool things I’ve done as an author. I think this one may take the cake though. Not only have I never done something like this before, so it’s going to test me, but I’ve added it to an already very full year of publishing. I don’t know if I don’t try, right?

Look at me aiming for three books to publish next year. And my first standalone.

Anyway, these are the vibes I’m going for, and it’s a retelling of a popular fairytale that’s NOT beauty and the beast. Any guesses?

QOTD: Do you prefer a routine, or to just go with the flow?

One of the things I wanted to challenge myself on a bit more is to do spoken reels like this. Do I look at it now, and think I sound like an idiot? Of course, but it’s never stopped me from doing something before. Doubt it ever will.

Another thing I really wanted to crack as an author, is juggling two manuscripts and I’m thrilled I finally have. The best way for me to do it is use the periods I wait for feedback, and so far it’s working exceptionally well for me.

Now if only I could juggle writing on my phone…..

As much as I love them, it’s the one thing that I can’t figure out to put on my body. It’s not like I have commitment issues, clearly. So until then, I write them into my characters, like everyone’s favourite bad boy, Sebastian Vance.

Remember that ex you had, that your parents never liked for you, but you couldn’t stay away? That’s Sebastian. (And yes, one of my exes definitely inspired parts of him.) But as the heir to the Rogue empire, things seems a bit hopeless for his future, so he just kind of does as he’s told.

Here’s the thing. Everyone is always going to have an opinion on the things you do in your life and it’s not exclusive to writing. That’s why it’s so important to drown out all the additional voices. Focus on the people who’s feedback matter to you most. As an author, I have my tribe of people who I rely on for this and I know when they give me feedback, it’s with my voice in mind. They’re not trying to change my writing to fit a trend or someone else’s expectations.

Dominic Hart, the leader of the Sorcerer Empire in my Supernatural mafia series is a party boy turned businessman, and he’s inherited a lot that he never asked for, yet, he steps up to the plate and does it anyway.

QOTD: Do you enjoy dark academia books?

This was the breath of fresh air I needed in the fantasy genre. It also happens to be my first Elise Kova book. Immediately you can tell she’s a very gifted storyteller. I absolutely adored the magic and world building in this book, it’s something unique to me as a reader. Also, this is one of the better enemies to lovers tropes I've seen in a long time.

Aside from the FMC who I LOVE, I did struggle to connect with some of the characters, and that's okay, we can't have all characters be likable, right? Other than that, the author has an abrupt writing style, which usually I don’t mind, yet it took me out of the story at times. These are the only things that stopped me from raving about this book and making it a top read of 2025. It definitely had the potential though.

With that being said, I’m definitely continuing the series, and I’m now going to go dive into Elise Kova’s backlist.

Aside from the tv series that inspired me to create this book, it’s actually really hard to pinpoint my inspiration. I’ve said a few times that I started out writing a plotter, but more and more I’m becoming a hybrid, and the pantser side is especially true for this book.

For example, a few characters came out of no where for this book that where never part of my plans….But I really liked the idea of not fitting in, and us needing to find ways to appear normal even if we aren’t. That’s a big theme throughout this series.

Out of all my series, my new one, Sins of the Half Blood has probably been the easiest to name. There was a very clear vision with this one, and that translated so easily into the titles. I’m trying something different for this series, where the reader will discover a big part of the Supernatural element, along with the FMC Iris.

If you’ve ever watched Dexter in the first few seasons, those are some of my favourite parts. I loved Dexter’s need to follow his code and do the right thing even if he wasn’t particularly good himself. I really debated if I should even touch this subject, as I know it can be sensitive for some. But f*ck it, let’s go. I read all the major romantasy books out there, because I love them too.

But if we start talking about the author side (and I’ve touched on this on my podcast) - it just didn’t appeal to me in any way. Do I have romantic subplots? Yes. And they are pretty significant. But my story could still stand on it’s own without them.

I completed this draft while on holiday at the end of 2024, going into 2025, and then my world was turned upside down as I got diagnosed with cancer. (It still doesn’t feel real typing it to be honest).

Having this book to focus on during one of the scariest times of my life, has been a gift. To have fun writing these characters, and exploring their lives, has been the sense of purpose I really needed.

I understand reading about the Supernatural Mafia may not be everyone’s thing. But I would really appreciate a share, because my next reader, may be in your network.

I’ve been in a bit of a book slump this year, and I desperately looked to the Booktok hype people to let me out of it. It’s very rare I’m disappointed with their picks and this one left me conflicted.

I’ve read a lot of King Arthur retellings, and this one definitely is unique. So much so, that I intend to finish the series because I need to know what happens. I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed the romance elements in this book. It’s definitely easy reading and didn’t have much issue picking up on their unique world building.

I think my only complaint is that it felt rushed in some parts, and that’s where my hesitation comes in that kept me from adoring it.

I can’t believe we’re almost there. The Clash of the Damned is with ARC readers, and reviews are starting to come in. I’m also trying my utmost not to share too many spoilers on line. This is where being transparent works against me. What’s the saying, less is more?

Random fact about me: I sometimes Google spoilers of movies so I can decide if I want to invest 3 x hours into a movie, and then will still be surprised when the plot twist happens that I Googled. It drives my husband nuts!

A few years ago, there was a TV show, Star, that should have been way bigger than it was. But the FMC played by Jude Demorest was a huge inspiration for Jude Rhodes in The Titan Syndicate Saga.

I swear everytime @nikkitabell delivers a character art piece to me, I gasp. I adore this version of Jude. And yes, you will find this print in the final copy of The Clash of the Damned too.

QOTD: Have you watched Dexter Resurrection?

I honestly had no idea about the Dexter revival series (plural) when I planned The Sins of the Half Blood Trilogy. I’m just that much of a fan of the original series (it’s one of my comfort rewatches).

Now that The Clash of the Damned is done, I can finally turn my attention back to this manuscript, starting my 4th series. Sure, the first draft is done, and I’m going into edits, but I would rather delete the entire thing than ever share that with anyone. So I’m basically starting from scratch. But....this is one of my favourite parts of writing a book. Seeing the progress and how I surprise myself with the things I create.

I tend to not produce three books per year, as it pushes me to my absolute limit, something I like to avoid, because I like having a life in between writing. By now I think it’s common knowledge that I don’t write romance as part of my main plot, but I will always have a romance subplot in place. A big one in The Titan Syndicate Saga is the relationship between Sebastian and Jude.

A big part of what inspired them was the boyfriend we had growing up that wasn’t good for us, but we couldn’t stay away. Remember that boyfriend our parents hated? That’s Sebastian. Not going to lie, I’ve had a ton of fun writing this!

I would have to say SJM, 20USD for CC3, the Ebook. But the same series, I got for an absolute bargain on Vinted, 40 euros for all 3 hardcovers in practically new condition. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a pretty cover.

The Titan Syndicate Saga is special to me for more than one reasons, but because I am so unbelievably proud of the covers in this series. It was a huge departure from what I had done in the past, and I had no idea if it was going to land well or not. (It did) and now, I’ve been sitting on the cover for the final book, and when I stacked them up against each other….well let me tell you, this is going to make some stunning book trophies, even for me.

QOTD: You’re chosen for a quest—what’s the first thing you pack?

If you feel like I’ve been talking about The Clash of the Damned forever, I’m right there with you. It feels like it’s been years since I drafted it (it’s been less than a year and I’m just dramatic), but we’re just over a month away from the release.

Do I have some insecurities about how this story will be recieved? Yes. For…reasons…But I know I’ve done the best I can do and that’s what I’m focusing on now.

Now, I’m off to watch Gossip Girl or The Vampire Diaries for the millionth time.

I know this may be an unconventional thing to say for an author, but if you’re looking for nice characters that have redeeming qualities….my stories may not be for you. While there is a market for them, truly, that’s just not what I write, and at this point, I feel no reason to.

The more experienced of an author I become, the better I become about saying these things. It’s not about volume readers, it’s about the right type of readers that may enjoy a series about the supernatural mafia.
